From the fields and forests of the Watershed, our staff is working hard to help participants obtain success. Watch our newest We Are Pure Catskills video featuring Main Street Farm as they continue to expand and reach a diverse market. The Nutrient Management Team has developed a new guide to help large and small farms with everything from waste management and grazing, to soil health and crop production. The forestry program is looking for healthy living chestnut trees to aid a study in New York State, and the easement program is gaining insight straight from the source as they conduct annual monitoring and stir conversations with local farmers.

Spring is upon us in the NYC Watershed! Farms are welcoming lamb and calves, the sap is flowing and the days are getting longer. This time of year is always hectic as we are finishing our Pure Catskills Membership drive and returning from a great weekend at the International Food and Restaurant Show, held March 6-8 in New York City. Our Forestry staff has been busy bringing you the most up-to-date information on Maple Syrup production on their new website MyWoodlot.com and our Agriculture staff has been busy preparing for another season of Whole Farm Planning. February is a busy month in the Watershed. Check out our latest e-news for details on the Pure Catskills Membership Drive, the Southern Tier Agricultural Industry Enhancement Program (STAIEP) grant available for Delaware County Farmers, Forestry Outreach program updates and the gains already made in 2016 with Conservation Easements and land protection. Keep an eye out for your green envelopes, the 2016-2017 Pure Catskills membership drive is officially underway! Become a member by March 18th to be listed in the next Guide to Pure Catskills Products. There are two ways to join:

1.) NEW! Pay online at purecatskills.com/user
2.) Mail your membership kit with payment to: Watershed Agricultural Council c/o Pure Catskills 44 West Street Walton, NY 13856

The Watershed Agricultural Council is proud to be a champion of clean water, protecting the environment and supporting an economically viable way of life. Our efforts have become an international model for watershed protection, as we are the largest unfiltered water supply providing 9 million New York residents clean drinking water. As we approach the end of 2015, we continue to reveal our Conservation Footprint. Showcased by:
  • 25,000 acres Conservation Easements
  • 159,000 acres Agricultural Whole Farm Plans
  • 194,000 acres Forest Management Plans
  • 300 Pure Catskills Farm and Forest Business members


As we look to 2016, we want to thank everyone in and outside of the Watershed who made these accomplishments possible. From our countless partners, to our participants, contractors and friends we could not do it without all of you!

We Are Pure Catskills: Robson’s Christmas Trees

Family tradition is at the very heart of Robsons Christmas Trees, a cut-your-own tree farm located in Bovina, NY. The Robson family has been growing Christmas trees since the 1950’s, providing their neighbors and visitors a place start and maintain their own family tradition. “We got away from any kind of retail situation, and more into having this as a place for families to come and pick out their tree and have a fun day.” Check out our latest We Are Pure Catskills video now!
