Engineering Specialist

Job Description

 

Functional Purpose:

The Engineering Specialist will serve as a conservation technician to work cooperatively in the design and implementation of Agricultural Best Management Practices (BMPs) in the Watershed Agricultural Program (WAP).

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic engineering and construction skills used in the design of agricultural buildings and water quality conservation practices.
  • Knowledge of farming practices on dairy and other livestock operations.
  • Computer knowledge including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Computer automated design (CAD) programs experience required.
  • Knowledge of GIS
  • Survey skills required, digital survey skills are preferred.
  • Must have a valid and current driver’s license

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design Natural Resource Conservation Services (NRCS) and WAC Agricultural BMPs including structural facilities for calves, covered barnyard and feeding areas, agricultural ventilation systems and related agricultural manure storages and equipment.
  • Explain design packages and procurement procedures to participants (farmers), and coordinate project implementation with contractors and participants.
  • Oversee and properly document the construction of BMPs following an approved design.
  • Assist with innovative solutions and designs to solve water quality problems.
  • Work independently, manage workload effectively and use good organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain a professional working relationship within a team setting.

Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Agricultural Program Manager or his/her designee
