Database Administrator

Job Description

 

Functional Purpose:

The Database Administrator will be responsible for managing all programmatic spatial and tabular data of the Watershed Agricultural Council.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Geography, GIS or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • One or more years significant experience maintaining an enterprise geodatabase using ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE (9.2 or 9.3), and SQL Server (2005 or 2008).
  • Experience developing software applications using Visual Studio and ASP.NET in either C# or VB.NET (or both).
  • Knowledge of rural land management data for agriculture, forestry and easements, and water quality data preferred.
  • Must have a valid and current driver’s license.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the organizational database management system.
  • Supervise and/or coordinate the activities of other employees and/or subcontractors.
  • Work closely with all Department Directors and Program Managers as needed.
  • Provide continual development, maintenance, troubleshooting and functionality of the database management system.
  • Provide training for other employees in utilization of database management system.

Mandatory skills:

SQL Server (2005 or 2008) administration experience including:

  • SQL Server installation and configuration
  • Setting up database accounts, roles and permissions
  • Knowledge of SQL programming, stored procedures, views and triggers
  • Database backup strategies and implementation
  • Database monitoring and tuning

Desired (and ultimately required) skills:

ArcSDE (9.2 or 9.3) Administration including:

  • Configuration of SQL Server to support ArcSDE
  • Installation and configuration of ArcSDE
  • Customization of storage for spatial data
  • Configuration, creation and monitoring of database connections
  • Implementation of data management strategies for vector and raster data
  • ArcSDE optimization
  • Maintaining performance of an enterprise geodatabase
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Server (9.2 or 9.3) administration:

ArcGIS Server (9.2 or 9.3) Administration and Development:

  • Installation of ArcGIS Server
  • Map caching
  • Setting up accounts and permissions
  • Performing replication and versioning in ArcGIS Server
  • ArcGIS Server Manager
  • ArcGIS Server SOM and SOC definition and management
  • ArcGIS Desktop software (9.2 or later)
  • Authoring and publishing of ArcGIS web services

Visual Studio (2005 or 2008) software development experience including:

  • Web application design
  • ASP.NET application development in C# or VB
  • AJAX
  • ADO.NET
  • Experience with Visual Source Safe for software baseline and configuration management (CM)

Reporting Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direct supervision of the Executive Director or his/her designee.
  • Supervise and/or coordinate the activities of other employees and/or subcontractors.
  • Works closely, proactively and cooperatively with fellow employees.
